LOOSE AND RELAXED FLORALS: a 4 week acrylic class with Julia Dean

THURSDAYS, September 10-October 1, 5:30-7:45
(LABS: TUESDAYS: 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 and WEDNESDAYS: 9/16, 9/23, 9/30, 10:00-1:00pm)
$400

While healing from a shoulder injury, I felt an itch to be creative and decided to take a painting class, using mostly my non-dominant hand. The paintings turned out to be some of my favorite works I've ever painted!
As we explore a variation of "negative space painting," I want to share approachable techniques and tips for keeping your style loose and fast, so you don't get stuck in the details of your paintings. This practice has put so much delight back into painting for me, and I hope it can feel the same for you.

WHAT TO EXPECT:
This four week class will meet once per week for 2 hours, 15 minutes. For the first hour, there will be a short demonstration, then we will paint floral compositions together using a physical floral arrangement for reference. Then we'll break for a snack, and paint again during the last hour.
WHAT'S INCLUDED IN TUITION:
All materials are provided for use during class, including substrates (canvas and wood panel), brushes, paints and easels.

**For a $5 paint fee per session, (pre-registration required) there will be access to the room, easels and materials on Tuesdays and Wednesdays 10am-1pm while class is in session. (TUESDAYS: 9/15, 9/22, 9/29 and WEDNESDAYS: 9/16, 9/23, 9/30)
**No instruction will be available during these times.

WHAT TO BRING:
Everyone is encouraged to bring a simple dinner and drink for our break each week. I hope we can talk and get to know each other better during these breaks.
WHAT WE WILL PRODUCE:
11X14 cradled wood panel
12X24 wrapped canvas panel
16X20 wrapped canvas panel
Each student will start 3 floral paintings during the class, which you will keep. (Some students may finish all of their paintings by week 4, while others will need to finish on their own, after the class has ended. This would require you to purchase your own paints and brushes, as all materials except your substrates will belong to the studio.)
