Refining Essential Forms with A Potter’s Workbook

with Christie Goodfellow

LEVEL: intermediate/advanced beginner wheel

Mondays, 6:00-8:30 PM, January 12–April 6 (no class Feb 16)

Cost: $650

This 12-week wheel-throwing class is inspired by Clary Illian’s renowned book, A Potter’s Workbook, and focuses on exploring the relationship between form and function in pottery. Through guided exercises, demonstrations, and group discussions, we’ll investigate the nuance of essential forms—such as cylinders, bowls, and plates—while developing a sense of proportion, balance, and design. The goal of the class is to strengthen wheel-throwing skills while cultivating an individual approach to making functional pottery. Prior wheel-throwing experience is required. Participants should anticipate purchasing additional clay during the session and spending a few hours each month working outside of class time. The material fee covers the cost of the book.

Refund Policy: full refund with 2+ weeks notice before class start date; 50% 7–14 days before start of class; no refund within the week before start of class session.
